Student Privacy at GradeDatum
At GradeDatum, student privacy is not an afterthought — it is a foundational principle that shapes every product decision we make.
What we collect
GradeDatum collects only the minimum information necessary to operate.
From teachers: full name, email address, school name, city, and state.
From students: first name, last name, and grade level. Nothing else.
GradeDatum does not collect student ID numbers, email addresses, demographic data, device information, behavioral data, or any other personally identifiable information beyond what is listed above.
Student assessment results and performance data are stored solely to support classroom instruction and reporting. This data is solely associated with the student's teacher and is accessible only through that teacher's account.
Quizential includes an accommodation tool that allows teachers to adjust the testing environment for individual students. Accommodation settings are applied by the teacher and contain no identifying information. No connection to IEPs, 504 plans, or any special education documentation is collected, stored, or referenced within Quizential.
How we use your data
Student data is used exclusively to operate Quizential. It is never used for advertising, marketing, research, or any purpose beyond supporting your classroom.
Teacher names and email addresses are retained by GradeDatum for communication and marketing purposes, including product updates, renewal notices, and information about new GradeDatum products and features. Teacher information is never shared, used, or sold for any marketing purposes with companies outside of GradeDatum.
Teachers may opt out of marketing communications at any time by contacting info@gradedatum.com.
What we never do
GradeDatum does not sell student data. Ever. We do not share student data with third parties. We do not use student data to build profiles. We do not use student data for advertising of any kind.
How data is stored
GradeDatum stores data on infrastructure provided by Supabase and Vercel — established, SOC 2 compliant platforms. Neither platform sells or uses your data.
GradeDatum does not store payment information. All billing is handled by our payment processor and never touches GradeDatum servers.
Account and data deletion
Teachers may request full account deletion at any time. Upon request, the teacher is immediately logged out and access is suspended. GradeDatum processes all deletion requests within 5 business days. Once a teacher account is deleted, all data associated with that teacher, their quizzes and questions, their classes, and all student records are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Accounts that expire or remain unpaid for more than 14 days are also subject to the deletion process.
When a class is archived — either automatically upon the teacher-defined end date or manually triggered by the teacher — detailed student performance data, including individual question responses, is permanently deleted. Student names and assessment grades are retained for record-keeping purposes, allowing teachers to reference that a student received a particular grade on a specific assignment. No further detail is recoverable. This process is automatic and irreversible.
Deletion is permanent and irreversible. All teacher and student records associated with the account are completely and permanently removed from GradeDatum's systems. There is no ability to recover deleted data under any circumstances. Teachers are strongly encouraged to export any records they wish to retain before requesting deletion or allowing their account to lapse.
FERPA
Quizential is designed to support teacher and school compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
FERPA is the federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It gives parents, and eligible students once they turn 18 or enter postsecondary education, the right to access and request correction of those records. It also restricts how schools and the vendors they work with can use or disclose that information.
Because Quizential collects only first name, last name, and grade level from students, and because we never sell, share, or use student data for advertising, our practices are designed to support the privacy protections FERPA requires schools to uphold.
IDEA
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is a federal law that ensures students with disabilities receive a free, appropriate public education tailored to their individual needs. Under IDEA, eligible students are provided an Individualized Education Program, or IEP, which outlines specific goals, services, and supports designed for that student.
IDEA is different from Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, another federal law that protects students with disabilities. While 504 plans typically focus on accommodations within the general classroom, IDEA's IEPs often include specialized instruction and related services.
Quizential's accommodation tool is designed to work independently of either framework. Teachers can apply testing accommodations directly, without the platform referencing or storing any connection to a student's IEP, 504 plan, or disability documentation.
